My Dog International Dog Show 2026
Every show year in Sweden starts with My Dog in Gothenburg, a double international show arranged over four days. I have been there in the past but it was a few years ago now, but this year I entered Honey and Polly, mainly to get an official show result for Polly before she is having her litter. It was clearly evident that my dogs aren’t showbred and they were not liked by either of the judges. We started out the first day with a Good quality for Honey and a Sufficient quality for Polly. These shows are held indoors at a huge venue with over 1600 dogs present each day and there are also competitions in several dog sports and other displays. There was also a dock diving display from the Netherlands so for the first time I had a chance to see it live.
The music and general noise level gets very high at indoor venues like these and neither Honey or Polly had experienced anything like this before. Honey was visible uncomfortable at first but by the time we got to enter the ring she was focused and thought us running together was great fun! On the second day she didn’t seem bothered and follow along the stands and shops in a good manner. Polly seemed very unbothered right from the start and thought that getting treats for just standing was the easist thing she’d ever done (did I mention that she’s never even practiced showing before?). She wasn’t perfect at standing totally still but it was good enough and when showing the movements she followed very well and thought it was quite fun.
I met a few friends, which was the best part of these days, and I also bought some deer antlers for the dogs to chew on, but this was enough showing for me for a good while, it really isn’t my favourite activity!
