The kennel and my breeding

The kennel prefix Watch’em was approved by the FCI and the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK) in May 2012. I hadn’t gotten my first whippet yet but I already knew I wanted to be a breeder in the future as it began to interest me when I started competing with dogs, watching pedigrees and studying up on genetics. It took a while but in 2020 I finally had my first litter and I think it’s a good thing as I had many years to think about what I believe is important in the whippet breed and what qualities I would like my dogs and future puppies to have.

I will only breed dogs together who are healthy and have a nice temperament but they also need to have performed well on the racetrack and preferably in lure coursing too. I’m also taking their genetics and pedigree into consideration to try to figure out what their puppies could be like.

  • My females are tested for several diseases and genetic traits and their back, hips and elbows are x-rayed. The same year they are bred their eyes are checked and their heart is checked by ultrasound.
  • My females have all done a behaviour- and personality description (BPH) and are merited in racing.
  • The males I use will preferably have as many of the examinations made as possible but at least eye screening and heart ultrasound.
  • I will not make any compromises regarding the basic temperament of the dogs I use for breeding. They have to be kind, not easily scared or aggressive and as typical whippets they should have the abiliity to relax and be calm when they are adults.
  • On top of that I hope to breed dogs that likes to exercise when they are outside, that are happy to meet people, that have a certain amount of will-to-please and focus and a lot of lure drive that goes together with their hunting instinct.

A bit about me

My name is Jinny Balogh and I’m 32 years old. I live with my fiancé and our two boys in a small house with a big garden in the village of Oskarström in the southwest of Sweden.

I bought my first dog back in 2005 when I was 14 years and that dog was a lovely mix named Tobias. With him I tried a wide range of dog training methods and we competed in agility a few times but most of all he he was my friend and he taught me so much about dogs and ignited the spark that is my love and passion for dogs. After a lot of thinking about a new breed I chose to look for a whippet which I had seen from afar and thought so elegant, calm and just the right size.

So in 2014 I got my first whippet, 1-year-old Marvin. With him I went to shows, and tried whippet race, lure coursing and oval track. He got his licenses and competed in all disciples and got some good results here and there. When I’d had Marvin for 1,5 years Lucy moved in and we went to many, many shows with some success. By the time Lucy was growing up I had started track racing with Marvin and it became my new passion so I bought my first racebred whippet, Bellamy. That way it went with the pack later joined by Bellamy’s little sister Aayla.

Aside from leading a dog crazed life with races almost every weekend during season I spend my free time with my family and I try to find time to photograph which I have done in a semi-professional matter for over a decade. I usually get some reading done almost every day as well.

  • The puppy is microchipped, vaccinated, health inspected and dewormed by the time of delivery which is at 8 weeks of age.

  • You can always ask me questions or just share your thoughts and I will always support you. I’m happy to help with race training as well!

  • The full price minus the down payment is paid when the puppy is picked up at 8 weeks and the contract signed.
  • You recieve a puppy package consisting of food, puppy collar, blanket and some other goodies.

What I wish from you

  • I want you to be aware of what kind of dog a whippet is and that you can do whatever it needs for satisfaction. If you have questions about the breed feel free to ask me.
  • You need to have extra time for your puppy when it’s small and you need to have a plan for how to make that time. As an adult it’s not allowed to leave your dog alone in the house for more than six hours so you need to have a plan for that too.
  • If you are going to mix male and female dogs you need to have a plan for what to do when the female is in heat to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
  • Your wish and aim should be to have contact with me because I would be very happy to follow the puppies in their new homes.
  • A sporting home is prioritized, such as racing, agility or other sports. You don’t need to have raced or owned a whippet before but you should be interested to try it out.
  • If you should need to rehome your dog please contact me and I will help you in some way.
  • Keep your dog insured.
